The Genesee-Finger Lakes Climate Collective

a Collective Impact Initiative

Building on its successful history as a collaborative organization, the Climate Solutions Accelerator is now using the principles of collective impact to effectively organize key stakeholders in coordinated action to expedite our region’s transition to a clean, regenerative economy.

The collective impact model is designed to tackle urgent, yet complex problems that cannot be solved by a single organization or within a single sector. Climate change is exactly this kind of issue.

The Accelerator serves as the backbone organization for the Genesee-FLX Climate Collective, a group of key stakeholders from throughout the region, including business, health, housing, transportation, agriculture, and more.

The Climate Collective identified four “cross-cutting considerations” or values to inform the work: equity, public health, economic development, and ecological stewardship, which serve as the basis for decision-making and assessing the suitability of climate solutions for the region.

What’s Your

Vision for a Thriving Region?

The Climate Collective partnered with Accelerator staff to complete a range of focus groups to develop a shared vision of what a thriving region on a healthy planet looks like for our region.

This is what we’ve heard from the community:

The Climate Collective is now working to move the climate action strategy from paper to practice. Several working groups are looking to advance systems-level climate solutions in line with our region’s largest emission sources - transportation, buildings, and renewable energy. We anticipate the addition of working groups in agriculture and workforce development in the near future.

The Genesee-FLX Climate Collective is also working to track our region’s progress in reducing carbon emissions and improving equitable access to climate solutions and their co-benefits by developing a shared system of measurement. Starting in Fall 2023, our partners at ACT Rochester have included some key climate indicators in their assessment of community well-being.
