Environmental Justice: Lessons Learned from the Front Lines

Presenter Peggy Shepard has a long history of organizing and engaging Northern Manhattan residents in community-based planning and campaigns to address environmental protection and health policy locally and nationally. Her grassroots organizing, advocacy, and participatory research has earned her recognition as a national leader in advancing environmental policy. She has been named co-chair of the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She also serves on the National Black Environmental Justice Network’s executive committee and the board of advisors for the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She has received numerous awards and two honorary doctorates.
