LOCAL ADVOCATES HEAD TO ALBANY TO DEMAND CLEANER HEAT AND LOWER BILLS (Jan. 23rd, 2024 at 6:45 AM)

30+ from Rochester travel to Albany to join 300+ rally to support NY HEAT Act to address the connected issues of rising energy costs and the urgent climate crisis impacting NYers’ daily lives

JANUARY 23, 2024; ROCHESTER and ALBANY, NY– Following Governor Hochul’s executive budget announcement, 300+ advocates and 36 lawmakers will gather at the New York State Capitol to demand passage of the NY HEAT Act. As temperatures drop and rate hikes impact New Yorkers from Brooklyn to Buffalo, too many hardworking families are stuck with the impossible choice between eating and heating. The group calls on Albany lawmakers to include the entirety of the NY HEAT Act in the upcoming budget to prevent future rate hikes like those passed in the last year, save struggling New Yorkers up to $75/month on their utility bills, and fight climate change.

Last week, Governor Hochul included key pillars of the NY HEAT Act in her executive budget.

30+ energy affordability and climate advocates including youth from the greater Rochester area will board a chartered bus to spend the day in Albany urging the NYS Assembly and Senate to include the entirety of the NY HEAT Act in their one-house budgets.
