Dr. LaShunda Leslie-Smith is a dynamic leader and advocate deeply committed to building equitable, person-centered systems that empower communities affected by poverty. With a Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California and advanced certifications in nonprofit leadership and business excellence, LaShunda blends academic rigor with lived experience to drive transformative change.  

As Executive Director of Connected Communities, she champions innovative solutions to create opportunities in education, health, and housing, aligning with her core values of equity, empowerment, and community-centered progress. Previously, LaShunda led the Young Women’s College Prep Foundation, where she expanded opportunities for underserved youth.  

A motivational speaker and workshop leader, LaShunda inspires others with her personal journey of resilience, having navigated the challenges of teen motherhood to become a nationally recognized leader. Her accolades include being named a 40 Under 40 honoree, a Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction, and being inducted into the Rochester Business Journal’s Circle of Excellence.

LaShunda lives in Rochester, NY, with her husband Moses, cherishing her family and her unwavering commitment to community upliftment.
