Sam Genovese
Director of Resource Management (Director of Development)
Sam grew up in Webster, NY but has found home in Rochester. In his undergrad program at SUNY Fredonia, he found his compassion for the natural world through taking care of and organizing cleanups for a creek area just off campus. It was also then that he took an Environmental Communications course where he began to understand climate related issues more seriously. After completing a BS in Communications Studies, he soon joined an AmeriCorps program that allowed him to work in the environmental field - removing invasive species, planting native ones, and building hiking trails in forested lands around Seattle. He also spent a season in rural Wisconsin as an Outdoor Educator where he taught hands-on science courses to Chicago school-agers. Later, he made the decision to go back to school and study human dimensions of the environment through a graduate program at SUNY ESF in Syracuse.
You can likely catch Sam out in Rochester on the weekends socializing with friends, hiking, dancing, or staying in to work on small art projects. Some of his greatest joys are dogs, camping, making food, and the queer community.
